Watching ladies curling at The Plains

Yeah, I know, it’s called Good Time Charlies. We always just called it The Plains. I tried to write a song about watching ladies curling at The Plains once. It always seems to be on there. I think all the beer consumed there gave me a fetish for lady curlers…not sure! Technical pen in sketchbook, [...]

Self Portrait No. 1

Nice 70s style, eh? For some reason, it reminds me of my dads old Golf Digest magazines from when I was a kid. I think there was someone who drew for that magazine in this style. Was sitting in my reading chair one night, turned the lamp toward myself, and drew what I saw in [...]

Canmore – Couch View simplified

This sketch likely isn’t that impressive, but it is here to remind me that to do an effective drawing, you have to simplify and group things into masses. Slightly more detailed version here.

Bells of Ireland

I have joined the ‘flower club’ at work. Every Monday, we get a new flower to take home. Very popular with the guys at work who like to bring home flowers to their ladies. Willow charcoal with brush pen in sketchbook.

Pokey Stick

Novia Cafe

A Regina landmark, The Novia Cafe. Sketched this one waiting to meet some guys at O’Hanlon’s for an irish breakfast. Basically a breakfast special with Guiness instead of coffee or juice. MMmmm, then home for nap! Google steetview

Ray Charles

Mister Ray Charles! He has to go in the important men series. I heard he was harder on his band than James Brown. I vaguely recall a story of how you had to watch one of his feet for your cue. Closest thing today has gotta be Binky Griptite of the Dap Kings. Damn, his [...]

Oliver Sacks

I have this grand idea of doing portraits of all the ‘great men’…or at least men I think are great. They will hang in the man room I will eventually have. Anyway, if I had kept on studying psychology in university, I would have wanted to study under this man. His most famous works are [...]

Package Pickup

“Package pickup” is kind of a Saskatchewan phrase, isn’t it? Anybody else say that? Anyway, it was Sunday, the kid was taking flying lessons and I was killing time until I had to go pick him up. I parked the car behind a closed bar downtown…yeah, it’s The Plains. Google streetview
